Had clutch replaced. $900. When picked car up, all action in 1st inch off floor, such that even though I've driven a stick for 20+ years, I kept stalling the car. Clutch adjusted over week or so. Few days later, with my foot completely off the gas, I push in the clutch and get an rpm climb of 100 to 300 before the rpms fall off. Has gone as high as a several hundred rpm climb. Have tested myself for foot off gas several times.

Q? The mechanic thinks it's "something else." What do you think is wrong. Is this clutch related, so that it should be covered under the work already done? Or is it something new that just decided to show itself now?

thanks

Honestly, I don't think it is the clutch. To me it sounds like a throttle position sensor going bad. Has the idle of the engine ever gone up and down over and over? Has the check engine light ever come on? Finally, just for the heck of it, open the hood and make sure they didn't reroute the throttle cable in a manner that interfers with the clutch slave. Maybe when you push the clutch in, it is moving the cable. I know that sounds elementry, but crazyier things have happened.

Let me know what you find, and thanks for using 2carpros. Com.

Stupid question, when they replaced the clutch, did they service the transmission? If they did, they may have put too heavy of a gear lube in the trans and you actually hear the RPM's drop when the clutch is out (in neutral turning inputshaft) and raise when the clutch is pushed in and all pressure is removed from the trans.

I know it sounds stupid, but the RPM variation isn't too much and many thing can cause it, even a vacuum leak.
