2000 Saturn Sedan

My Saturn has quit whilst driving several times. It is working fine and suddenly it's getting no fuel and dies. If I wait a few hours it starts. However, for about 1/2 hour after starting, after the "no Fuel" episode, it revs high. I've changed the filter and the pump. It quit again. If I unhook the line with the key on it's not pumping fuel.

That's crazy u can hear the pump running with no fuel pressure? The pump only runs like 5 seconds when u turn it to the run postion and will run constant when ur in the crank postion. Do u have spark? When the car doesn't start take off two spark plug wires on the coil that are right next to each other. Have someone crank it the spark should jump from tower to tower. Let me know.

If u have fuel in the tank and the pump is running then u should have fuel moving with a good pump. If u take the pressure line off the fuel filter the nipple facing the tank and turn the key on u dont have fuel pumping out?Iam talking about when the car doesnt start. Let me know.

That is correct. I'm guessing the new pump is defective.
Whould it make any difference to change the screen on the pump?

Unless the screen is plugged solid and not letting any fuel in then no. Ur supposed to change the screen when u change the pump. So I take u changed just the pump and not the whole assembley with the lines comming off it and all that?
If ur getting power and ground to the pump and u have fuel in the tank with no fuel pressure right off the pump then the only thing it can be is a bad pump. Let me know what u find.

The pump was $250.
The assembly was $475.
No one had a screen to sell me.

I'm going to look at the pump again today. I had to walk away before I torched the car.

I don't blame u for just replacing the pump I did that for a friend because of the price differnce. But they told me if I didn't replace the screen too at the same time there was no warranty on the pump. Let me know what u find.
