Unfortunately, Saturn engineers apparently decided that they wanted DIY'ers to get really dirty and frustrated when working on their cars.
Get yourself a Chilton's manual (or comparable) and it will really help you in many ways.
As for the water pump, it IS located under the air compressor. You can either remove the air compressor (actually, DO NOT remove the compressor but disconnect it from the engine and move it aside. DO NOT disconnect any hoses).
Or, you can jack up the car, remove the splash shield from the passenger side wheel well and access the water pump that way (that's my preference).
