1994 Saturn overheating problem

I recently purchase a used 1994 Saturn SL, with a 5 speed tranny, 4 cylinder engine. I runs good except that it smokes when excellerating and gets hot, then dies. The electric fan works sometimes, so we hot wired it to stay on all the time but it still gets hot. We opened the a line on the top drivers side of the engine and released air from the system, but the air keeps coming back. My guess is that the car may have overheated one too many times. We have not checked the thermostat yet, because we are not sure where it is. Do you have a diagram, or can you tell me where it is? Also do you have any ideas what else could be causing the problem?

I have a 94 Saturn SL1 Automatic that has 150,000 miles on it. It overheats no matter what temperature outside. I have pulled my T-stat to see if it would run cooler, no such luck. I have replaced it as well with a new one. I had to replace the radiator cooling fan motor, since it went Kaput. It is now hard wired in and yet I still over heat. With that many miles, I do not want to prematurely zap the gaskets in the car especially since Saturn's cost so much to work on. Heres a link to about the best site I have found to buy a new radiator. I am going to order it tomorrow, I'll let you know if its the cure all
