1993 saturn sc2 / 4 cyl. / 5 speed manual shift

I drive 54 miles to work mostly freeway miles.
When I get off the freeway and stop at traffic lights the car will sputter upon acceleration until it is shut off during work hours. It will run o.k. on the way home, but will sputter if I give it "gas" to pass.
I am of the mind that this could be the fuel filter.
I am trying to avoid trial and error replacement parts
as I don't have much free time do to work hours.
If you agree that it is the fuel filter can you tell me where it is located?

Hey M,
Try a tank or two of fuel injector cleaner first. I like chevron with techron.

How many miles?How long since last tuneup (plugs, wires, etc)? How many miles on the current fuel filter? The fuel filter on my 96 SC2 was on the drivers side of the engine bay to the very rear almost underneath.

Check for vacuum leaks also.

Thanx for the speedy reply to my questions. I think what you guys do for people with little knowlege of auto repair is great. I would like to make a donation but I don't use a credit card. Is there any other way?

I bought this car second hand from a co-worker about three years ago and the engine had been replaced pryor to that. It had sixty three thousand on it when he put it in, and since september of last yeay the odometor stoped working.
I am going to replace spark plugs, wires, & fuel filter.
I did try injector cleaner and it did help but did not solve the problem.
I also have a problem when turning the wheel sharply to the right (backing out of parking space...) sounds like a metal to metal grinding.
Any thoughts on that?
