Safety of airbag removal

The horn started intermittently not working. I have researched and suspect horn activation parts in steering wheel and have ordered appropriate part. To get at the parts to be replaced, the airbag module must be removed. All of this seems simple and straightforward.

My question: What is your recommendation for the safety of removal of the airbag module?

Thank you, Scott

Good morning,

I would remove the negative battery cable and let it sit for about thirty minutes for the capacitor to discharge.

Do this before I remove the airbag module, right? Will this render completely incapable of discharging?

Thank you.

Yes, this is before you remove the airbag.

Thank you. I took your advice and waited a full thirty minutes although the AllData documentation for this vehicle stated only one minute was necessary. I have to admit it was a bit disconcerting handling a potential projectile. But in the end, all went well: Removed the air bag and replaced the horn parts inside the steering wheel. Thanks again, Scott
