I have replaced the cable on the cluth many times. It constantly breaks. Now, my mechanic is saying the insulation around the cable is getting stuck which makes it impossible to shift into gears, so he removed it. Additionally, the shifter feels spongy when it will let you shift. I am at my wits end with this car. Please help.

The outer sleeve of the clutch cable is a vital part. It needs this to stay in the correct position. If there is no sleeve on, it will definately start getting snagged on things. I'vr never haeard of this before? You really need to get a good quality new cable put on? Asap. Do you mean the clutch pedal feels spongy? This is how it is supposed to feel?
