I am in the process of filing a claim with my auto insurance company to pay for damage to my AC condenser on my 2012 Elantra sedan. The mechanic at a dealership suspects it was damaged by a rock from the road surface. If so, then my comprehensive insurance coverage should pay for the repair, akin to paying for the repair for a rock-damaged windshield. My insurance company claims it is a design flaw, and denied my claim. Considering how easy it is to find similar incidents on the internet, I am going to appeal. I am hoping to find an experienced Hyundai mechanic who is willing to attest in their reply that rock damage to AC condensers is quite common in modern cars. I also request that the mechanic state his experience and years of certification.
The bill is well over 1000 dollars, and is not my responsibility. It is similar to a rock hitting a windshield, thus a road hazard that should be covered by insurance.
I was hoping for someone who actually knows that the AC condenser is located directly behind the grill. In a Hyundai Elantra (that is the name of a common auto model in the US), the grill offers no protection from rocks.
