I am wanting to change the transmission fluid and filter on my car but I am having trouble trying to find the "over flow" bolt". I'm not even sure it has one but all the manuals say it does. And all the pictures that come up in everything, is not look like my transmission. I have located the drain bolt. Also is it necessary to take off the pan?

Hi,

According to my manual, the vehicle has a dipstick for the transmission. If you have to add fluid, make sure to use the correct type. This is a CVT transmission and damage will result if the wrong type is used.

I suspect you are checking fluid level. I attached the directions below. See if that is what you are looking for and let me know.

Take care,

Joe

That is not even close to answering the question I asked. I know how to check the fluid. But my question was "emergency brake and traction control". If it doesn't have one, then please tell me if it doesn't have one. I am going to change out all the fluid and also the filter. I know I have to drain the fluid out and then take off the pan to get to the filter. I have been told there is an overflow bolt to let fluid out if you get too much in it. After I put everything back together.

Sir, it does answer your question. On many vehicles, they don't have a dipstick. Instead, it has a fill plug and a drain plug. The fill plug is basically used as an overflow. Transmission fluid is filled through this plug opening and once it is full, it overflows from that plug.

When filling, the engine needs to be at operating temperature. The fluid level at that point should be at the base of the drain/overflow plug threads.

Since your vehicle does have a dipstick, that is how the level is determined and where it is filled. It won't have an overflow/fill plug.

I have no idea what you mean by, "emergency brake and traction control."

I hope this helps. If I still misunderstood what you are asking, let me know.

If you had said what you did in the second response yes it would have been answering my question. But you just said to check the fluid not that is also used as the overflow. Yeah, no idea where "emergency brake and traction control." Came from. Sorry. What I am talking about is in the picture. My Transmisson is not the same as the picture but everywhere I have been reading says there is supposed to be there, but I am not finding it on my car. All the video's I watch that is supposed to the same vehicle as mine say to use it when you fill the Transmisson up, so you don't over fill the Transmisson. I don't know how the dip stick filling tube is supposed to be used as an overflow because the top of the tube is way too high to let extra fluid out.

Do you have a dipstick on the transmission? The dipstick tube isn't an overflow. It is used only to check the level. You add fluid through it. After adding fluid, then that is when the stick is used.

Let me know.

So, I have it all back together and took my time putting in the fluid to make sure I didn't put too much in and now the car will not move. The fluid is right at the top/full line. The only other thing that I noticed is that if I rev the motor while in gear it will not go over 3000 rpms and kicks it down to 2500. It bounces back and forth between the two numbers.

Hi,

When you checked the fluid, did you shift through the gears first and have the vehicle at operating temperature? The fluid temperature needs to be between 122- and 176-degrees F when the level is checked and the engine running in park or neutral.

Also, did you have the pan removed? How much fluid was added?

Let me know.

Yes, I waited for it to get warm. I added 5qt of fluid, but I collected around 6 qt. And yes I removed the pan.

Hi,

When you installed the new filter, was there a grommet that it seated into before bolting? If that wasn't fully seated, it won't circulate fluid, or the line pressure will be low. See pic below.

Let me know.
