I attempted to replace a wheel stud on the front driver's side but got as far as removing the old one but noticed that, even after removing the thin metal plate for more access to the entire 360 deg to allow more room to slide the new stud in, there wasn't anywhere that I could pass the stud through.

To help you understand what the issue is. Excuse my lack of terminology so I hope you still grasp what's going on

So, the part of the wheel assembly that has the studs sticking out of is attached to the bearings. The housing for these bearings starts right near the Axel then extends gradually increasing the angle. So, there is nowhere to pass the stud through. You can't cut into the housing either case it needs to be cut a huge amount which means you would cut right through the housing.
The only way I could see it being done is if the front bolt that holds the front wheel on loosen just enough to put it forward and get the stud in.

I have read that you could damage the bearings if this isn't done right.

Can you help me with the best way to easily pass the new stud in so it can be seated?

So, the wheel studs are installed before the hub is assembled, you will need to remove the CV axle nut and use a puller to move the hub away from the bearing slightly to install the wheel stud, I would not cut anything to make the stud fit. Once installed retighten the hub/CV axle nut to reassemble. Here is a picture of the tool you need to do the job. Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem so we can see what's going on.
