It is unlikely that the injector was installed incorrectly if the vehicle started and drove. However, that doesn't mean that the injector that was used was not faulty.
I would suggest starting with getting the current codes and going from there.

If it were me, I would ask that the mechanic that looked at it, come back and diagnosis it again. If he already did and is now telling you that it needs glow plugs and a turbo then it sounds like he is guessing.
The glow plugs are there only to warm the combustion chamber to help the fuel ignite when it is compressed. However, they are not required unless it is cold. So if it is cold right now and the engine is not starting then it could be the glow plugs.
However, let's test that by turning the key to on position and not start the engine. Let it sit there for a minute then turn the key off and back to the on position. This will allow the glow plugs to heat the chamber and then try to start the engine.
