2001 Renault Scenic Front Wheel Drive Manual 92000 miles

My father had his car fixed in November of last year, This was to replace auxillary drive belt as it had started to shred, cam belt as it was about due so had it doen as engine was already stripped down and a new water pump, was told this may have caause dthe shredding of the Adb.

Last friday have driven for 50 miles he noticed his car had started knocking.

It turns out now this Auxillary drive belt has slipped off and wrapped itself around the cam belt, is this common for a belt to fall off and do this, also is it common for it to fall off after only 3 months after being fixed. My father averages about 115 miles per week in his car.
so this could be a costly repair.

Firstly. The CAM (timing) BELT should have covers over it. So the Alternator/Auxilary belt should not be able to wrap itself around the CAM belt. Secondly. In my opinion the alternator/auxilary belt cannot of been installed correctly if it just fell off. I would be returning this back to the garage who did the repair's and telling them to put it right !
