2002 Renault Clio Help - Clio won't drive

Hi,
Not had many problems with my Clio however last night broke down! The car started fine and drove for about a mile, then it started juddering and got worse and worse, like when you stall a car and bunny hop. Lost all revs and had to get to a layby on just the clutch, the battery light and engine warning light came on, however I still had all battery power to lights and stereo etc. I pulled over turned the car off and started it again and this time it still juddered and I had to really put my foot down to stop it cutting out but the battery light wasnt on just the engine warning light and the water light was flashing, also it smelt like buring and somehow sounded noiser than it normally does so I turned it off again. Please help! Miss my car :(
