Removing the engine

Am very close on removing the engine from the car. I have seen many videos and most say to support the transmission. Since these engines have studs coming out of them going into the transmission, it has to come out at a small angle. Would you just put a jack underneath the transmission and jack it up a bit along with lifting the motor? Or would you loosen the bolts on the transmission mounts to lift up the transmission freely when needed to separate them. My only concern is that loose song the transmission mount bolts may make the transmission move too freely and make it harder to separate the two, as everyone says its a PITA to separate them sometimes.

Hi,

I wouldn't remove the trans mounts. What you need to do is support the transmission with a floor jack because when you disconnect it from the engine, it will want to lower. You will have the play you need to get the engine out. The transmission will move enough. If it doesn't, loosen the mounts if needed, but don't remove them.

I don't know if you need them, but I added the engine removal and replacement directions below. I'm adding them so you have a reference. Also, the torque specs are included in the directions, so you will have them as well.

Engine out. Not too bad except for the stud going into the transmission. Horrible dirt on the clutch throw out bearing for a car with 85,000. Do these engines have a front transmission seal for the oil? Also, the replacement engine has 47,000 is it recommended I change the rear main seal? If so I can ask how it is removed on another thread.

Hi,

I'm glad to hear you got it out. Hopefully, it wasn't too hard.

As far as the rear main seal, if there is no evidence of it leaking, I would let it alone. As far as the front crank seal, yes it has one. I attached a pic below showing it.

Hi,

There is a front seal on the main input shaft. However, in the pic, it has a star next to it and there is nothing on the page indicating what that star footnotes. I know there are two different 6-speed manuals used. There is a TY75 and a TY85. Maybe that is what is indicated.

Are you referring to what someone wrote on it? If so, I'm not sure what they are trying to indicate.

Sorry, I wish I had a better answer, but I'm just not sure. Are both engines in the engine or is that only the new one?
