Since I consider you guys to be top notch mechanics, I thought to ask you the following about my Mazda5:

Background. The car was purchased 5 months ago from a friend who was the 4th owner. The Carfax shows no accidents reported (but at least 1 fender bender, nothing serious), and very few oil changes (but I think that is incorrect). My friend changed the oil at 151,000, and I changed it twice since, the last change using full synthetic from Walmart. The front end was replaced, and the tranny fluid and filter changed as well to be safe (fluid as somewhat dark, no burnt odor).

Since I really like this car, and I drive for Uber (20,000 to 30,000 miles/year), I was planning to use this as my Uber car.

Question: Do you think this car can last 250,000 miles assuming regular maintenance is performed before major issues like A/C compressor, transmission failure, power steering pump, master cylinder, etc?

Thanks in advance,

Jon

Good afternoon,

Since the transmission fluid was dirty and discolored, good chance it was not maintained correctly. The likelihood of it lasting that long is very slim even if you change the fluid. You cannot undo the damage that was done.

The same goes for the motor. It all depends on the service times for the engine.

Any car can last that long as long as it is treated correctly.
