I have been searching for an answer to whether or not redlining my car is bad. I've heard that the redline is to indicate the end of the safe range of engine speeds and I've heard that redlining your car is terrible for your engine. Should I refrain from redlining my car?

Good afternoon,

Never redline your engine. You are talking about a 15-year-old car. That is abuse and you will damage the engine by doing this.

To expand on what Roy said. The redline is nothing more than the theoretical limit they think the engine can withstand for a few seconds. That is when the engine is new, with no wear, full oil pressure and all things perfect. Your engine is very worn and likely will not survive very long at redline. Also redline is normally on the downward slope of power production so all it really does is stress the parts for no reason.
