Hi. I want to know if I feel a free play on the rear wheel bearing hub is okay? I don't feel a grinding noise or something like that only a free play when I have the parking brake on. I want to know if it's damage or it's normal.
Thanks,
Juan Marin

Hi,

There really shouldn't be free play. Are you certain it is the hub bearing? I noted you indicated you feel it when the parking brake is on. Are you certain it is the bearing and not a control arm bushing?

If you look at the first three pics below, they explain how the hub bearing is checked. Note: that there is a very small tolerance for the bearing.

Let me know if that is something you are comfortable doing. Also, let me know what side of the vehicle is affected, what movement you see (for example, in and out, or front to back), and anything you can think of that can help us figure this out.

Let me know what I can do to help.

Take care,

Joe

Hi Joe,

Thanks. The movement is front and back on both sides left and right.
This vehicle was on severe daily drive condition with horrible roads conditions too.
I checked twice every bushing and I want to make sure that the wheel bearing hub was the problem.
I will perform that procedure you send me and let you know what I found.
Thanks Joe.

Hi,

You are very welcome. If they are moving front to back, certainly pay attention to the sway bar bushings. There could be play in them as well. A wheel bearing will usually move up/down, forward/back, or in/out if bad. So that could be the issue but just confirm.

Take care,

Joe
