Rear struts

I had the rear struts replaced ,but on the bottom of strut where the two bolts go there was a rubber insert by them and the person who replaced struts left them out due to him having a problem realigning the two bolts. The car seems to be fine now but was wondering what the rubber inserts were for and is this going to cause a problem later by being left out? I have the rubber inserts. Thank you
