I dropped the transmission pan to change the transmission filter. I changed the gasket and torqued the pan bolts down. The car calls for three quarts of ATF, so I put that in and when I started the car to check the dipstick was completely dry. I added another half a quart, and the dipstick had the smallest amount, so I added another half checked then another half and it is barely 3/4 of an inch up the dipstick barely moving. I have added in total 4.5 quarts and I have to check with someone to see because that's never happened before. The only thing I can think of is I had the pan off overnight and it was draining out, but I don't know.

Hello,

Typical drain and fill takes little over three quarts (3.1 quart is what the book calls for).
It is possible to have more than that amount to be drained.
Have you measured the old fluid to see how much actually drained out?
This could help determine the exact amount you will need.

Let me know of any questions.
Thank you.

I already got rid of the old fluid. I had the pan off overnight. How much is the total capacity of the transmission system? I also use Alldata so we are looking at the same specification page.

Total fluid capacity should be 7.2 quarts. Keep in mind it is unlikely all the fluid got drained.
