I was watching your series on the 5.3 ls r 13 video series sponsored by summit. Is this something that can be “ls swapped” in a 1970 c10? If it is what transmission would you use? What ecu, wiring harness would you use? I am a novice, the weekend DIY. This rebuild series I thought was amazing. Also, for your time in answering the questions, what’s the best way to donate to your channel? My name is Paul from south Texas. I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks. Is the person answering these questions really the same guy doing the work in the YouTube channel?

Sorry for the delay.

You just made the only donation that we need. This is a free service that the owner of the site started with his father to simply provide a sounding board or additional resource for those that have questions about their vehicle.

I will pass this on to Ryan who is the one in the video and make sure he weighs in on your questions. He does not monitor these questions as he gets the job of playing in the shop and making those great videos.

Here is a link to the first in the series if others that visit this page and are curious:

As for the transmission questions, the good thing is your options are endless with this set up. The only thing you would need to mess with are mounts but on this truck that will not be hard.

I would go with a 4L60/80E as it is simple and reliable. However, if you want to build the engine up with more HP then I would look at a company like Monster Transmission as they have all sorts of different options for any application.

I will see if Ryan can add his thoughts as well. Thanks for your support.

Hey there Paul!

First off thanks so much for watching and using our website! Secondly to answer your great questions the transmission I would use is a 4L60E because it is simple, reliable and can handle a ton of power. Not to mention the controller is built into the ECU so you will not need an external module to control it. It will just work and work well! The truck you have there is a great platform to swap pretty much anything into including the LS we built. There is an endless amount of mounts and swap tools for that vehicle and you should have no problems.

Summit actually wants me to do a "How to LS Swap" series in the future but that is a long ways off so I will happily tell you exactly what we are going to use in that future series.

The ECU we use is the exact one we used on the dyno with a base tune on it so it will at least start, the security lock out is also disabled. Which is just the stock one I got out of a junk yard. You just have to match your crankshaft reluctor wheel with it. So the old style has twenty four teeth and the later style has fifty eight. We will tune it again once it is in the car with it's final transmission, rear end gear ratio, stall speed, and tire height.

The wiring harness will be this one as recommended by Tuning by Tad: https://www.bp-automotive.com/product-category/ls-swap-harnesses/gen-iii-stand-alone-harnesses-kits-and-pcms/gen-iii-dbc-harnesses/gen-iii-dbc-24x-ls-truck-suv/ These are made right here in the USA and use stock GM connectors. They are a little pricey but absolutely worth it! BP also sells flashed ECMs if you want to go that route as well.

As far as a donation goes, you are too kind! The best way is to go to anyone of my videos and click the "Join" button. But know you never have to do that, these videos and this site are always meant to be free help for folks.

To answer your last question, I answer any of the questions our awesome support staff forward to our site coordinator. She sends them to me and I answer them when they pertain to a video of mine. So yes the guy in the video does answer the questions when it comes to a video here on the site.

And if you need a reference for the parts we used Summit built us a page found here: https://www.summitracing.com/newsandevents/newproductreleases/2carpros-5-3l-gm-ls-engine-build-parts-combos-now-available-at-summit-racing

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask and thank you for using 2CarPros!

Very Best Regards,
Ryan
