First, my car started slipping out of gear. Then it got hesitant about going into first gear. I started using overdrive and it seemed to do better. Then reverse stopped working and it would drive in neutral at this point, which was strange. I needing to back up one day, so I had to turn the car off, and only then could I push it backwards in neutral. The other day I heard a thump or something and forward stopped working, so I came to a stop. But then reverse started working again. I drove in reverse all the way to a place I could leave my car. I ordered a computer but it's still doing the same thing with the new computer. Can anyone give me some ideas of what the problem could be?

Hi,

This sounds like the shift lever is out of adjustment causing the manual valve inside the transmission to partially engage each gear. Basically, the shifter says it is in D or R etc but the transmission is not actually in that gear because the linkage is out of adjustment.

I attached the procedure for both a column shift and a floor shift so please use the one that your vehicle has.

If this is not the cause then you definitely have an issue inside the unit and it will need to be torn apart to determine the root cause.

Let me know if you have questions about this. Thanks
