So, I changed my power steering pump, the high-pressure hose and bled the system. However, it's still whining almost screaming when I turn the wheel and I now see smoke coming from somewhere under the air filter housing. Does this sound like my rack and pinion are bad also?

Hi,

Could you record what it is doing and upload it for me to hear? Also, do you have assistance when turning even though it is making noise? The smoke has me a bit concerned. Does it have a specific type of smell such as rubber-burning, an electrical issue, or anything different?

There is a power steering control module under the dash above the steering column that may be causing pressure control issues. See pic 1 below. Pic 2 shows what the module looks like.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

If possible, record it and upload it for me to hear. If there is still smoke present, check to see if the belt is slipping on the pump pulley. That may be the issue since there is smoke. However, that would have a somewhat rubber-type smell.

Let me know.
