Hi, I have a 98 sunfire GT which I changed the air filter and drive belt on yesterday. Started it up ran great, went to start it later on that evening and it idled very rough and started chugging. I gave it a bit of gas for just a few seconds and once I let off it held the higher rpm on its own for maybe 5 seconds then drop down to normal idle rpm and the check engine light came on as well as the ETS light. I had to drive only a short distance to get the car home but during the drive the transmission was shifting a lot harder then normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If the check engine light came on, there will be a trouble code stored in the computer. Have it scanned to identify where the problem is coming from. Most will do it for free. I can't say for sure, but my first guess is that the MAF sensor came disconnected when you replaced the air filter. Check it out and let me know what you find.
