Valve noise

2000 pontiac grand prix, 69000 miles, 3.1 engine. When I first start car I get excessive valve noise. It goes away after a few minutes, even after a new oil change. The engine runs smooth. What could be the problem? Thanks

You have a lifter/s leakdown problem and when you change them-you have to change his partner the camshaft. They're brothers in the valvetrain.
