The temperature on my car fluctuates every time I stop. I was wondering if it might be the thermostat, or is there some kind of sensor. Where is the thermostat located?

Hello, you should start by draining the coolant. here is a guide for that:

Here is a guide that will give you an idea of what you are in for when doing the job:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/replace-thermostat

Here is what it will be lie on your car (below):

Tighten the water outlet housing bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)

Check out the diagrams (below).

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers, Ken

If you have a 3.4 l engine it is located under the throttle body. Just follow the upper radiator hose to engine, the part it connects to is the thermostat housing. Hope this helps. Remember feedback and votes for me are greatly appreciated

Your thermostat is located right next to the throttle body towards the front of the car. You need to remove the injector cover to get to it.

You have two radiator hoses. One goes to the water pump, the other goes to the thermostat housing. Follow the hoses and you'll find your thermostat.

On GM V6 engines they are on intake manifold, follow upper hose to thermostat housing.

I have a 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1 litre. I recently replaced the water pump and now it is running hot. Could the thermostat be fouled up? If so what is the step by step procedure to replace it? Where exactly is it located?

I beleive if you follow the upper radiator hose from the rad to the engine the thermostat should be on the other end of that hose
