Computer problem
2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I had new mufflers installed about a month ago. That fixed my original problem, but they didn't reinstall the tailpipes correctly, so I had to take it back. They fixed that problem by removing and reinstalling the mufflers. As soon as I drove away from the shop, the service engine soon light came on. I immediately called the shop to report this and they said they didn't do anything near the engine that would cause the light to come on. I suspect that's not the case. What could they have done incorrectly with the mufflers that can cases the SES light to come on?

You need to have the computer scanned for OBD2 code/s to find out what's causing it to come on-could be the oxygen sensor/s

Thanks. I intend to take it back to this place to run a scan. Their response of "we didn't do anything" immediately after they did work on the car leads me to think they still did something. The O2 sensors have been replaced in the last couple years, so I'm hoping they're not bad already. Just looking to see if replacing mufflers could cause something else to trigger SES light.

O2 sensor might not be connected or the exhaust system is leaking somewhere and the O2 is sensing it

As Raz said they probably forgot to connect the O2 sensor, which is in the exhaust stream.
