Electrical problem
2000 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

What would make the power to my car shut off. I was driving and there was nothing. Not even my clock was working? My battery is less than 1year old. About 6-7 months ago I noticed that when I put my key in the ignition that nothing happened. Every once in a while I have to turn it on and off and finally it will start. It doesn't even try to crank up. Tonight when I started it I noticed that my dome light flickered a little. By the time I got home from work (its about 17 miles) as soon as I turned into my parking space I lost ALL power. My car has about 157,000 miles on it. Any possibilites you can give me would be great.

(I am so broke right now or I would donate!)

Possible causes are a bad ignition switch, or (if equipped) the security system.

If security light is on then reset the system.

The fact that you are losing all power (like turning key off) indicates an ignition switch.
