Hello,

I have a question. I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am, 103K, 3.8L V6.

Left work this morning, got home, parked the car and everything was fine. Went to go out tonight and the car wont start. The battery has power, all lights and gauges are on however the car wont turn over.

Have checked starter and it will roll over by by-passing with a screwdriver but still wont start with key in the ignition in the on position.

I have been reading the Q&A found on this website and I suspect it is the neutral safety switch or the ignition switch. If so, where are these located and how easy is it to fix myself?

Any idea of a ballpark figure of what it will cost to repair this? (CDN $ if possible! )

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT and had only had the car for about 6 months, suddenly one morning I went out to go to work and it wouldn't start. I checked the battery and all my electrical systems seemed to be working. Nothing seemed to be wrong with the car, except it just wouldn't turn over, not even a sputter or anything. Finally, later that night I had a friend come over to help me and after reading my owner's manual, it said that if your car does this, to put your key in and turn the ignition to the ACC position (I'm not certain about that name, but is the position of the key before the on position). You are to leave it in this position for 10 minutes. Apparently this resets something with the vehicle and it will start. Now mine had something to do with the battery starting to die and my security system was locking the iginition of the vehicle. I had to do this just about three times a week until I changed the battery. Once the vehicle is reset, it will ding at you and you and you can start it. I don't know if this could be the problem, but it was just one of those things I would have never guess at.
