2002 Pontiac Grand Am overheating

My car started to over heat today so I turned on the heater and it blew out cold air it never got hot what could cause the overheat and why was the heater blowing cold when my engine was over 200

Check the coolant level in radiator. If its low then check for leaks in engine compartment and radiator area. Could be many things from faulty heater core to simple heater hose failure.
