My Grand Am began to "bog down" and in checking noticed the antifreeze was leaking into the oil. I was told it has a leak at the intake manifold. (Gasket?) What is the extent of fixing this problem in costs, time and difficulty? Is it something a do-it-yourself mechanic can do in their own garage? It has sat for a year now and I would like to fix it. Do you think that is all that is wrong or could there be more like heads. It still runs but I leave it so nothing worse happens in the meanwhile.

Its time consuming. My first one took me all day. The repair costs vary from 500 to 800, parts and labor. Also has it been sitting with the coolant in the oil? Antifreeze eats engine bearings.

Yew the mix has been sitting for about a year. What happens if the moter bearings have been ate and how much cost are in that fix? Also, how much are the cost of just the parts for the manifold (and perhaps bearings) without the labor costs?

First change oil and filter then run engine and very quickly snap the throttle open and listen for a knocking noise in the engine, if you dont hear one then replace the intake gaskets. The total cost of all the parts is about 100-125.
