The fuel gauge stays on full. Is this a problem with a fuse or do I need to have a mechanic look at it?

Generally it is the sender in the tank, which must be replaced as an assembly (fuel pump, assy, and sender).
Disconnect the connector to gauge (on top of tank), if gauge goes to E, then the sender is bad.
