Engine Mechanical problem
1992 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I recently took this car to have an engine replaced. Was quoted $1,700.00 installed. Then they called & said I needed another $1,036.00 in parts. I did authorize this as I new the car was old & would need parts. Now they are telling me I have to pay another $1000.00 core charge! What is that, & why must I pay that? Shouldn't it be included in the install price?
Thanks for your help.

Cores are sent back to rebuilder to be rebuilt and resold. If core is not rebuildable, they can charge you the entire core charge.

Core would not be rebuildable if block was cracked, or it threw a rod and block has hole in it.
