1992 Pontiac Grand Am ball joint/ tie rod?

1992 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

How can I look at my front end and tell if the bad part is a ball joint or tie rod? I can clearly see that a boot is busted on something by my tire on the top, but I dont know what it is. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Raise car, put on stands. Grasp tire and push/pull both horizontally and vertically, if any movement then possible wheel bearing, ball joint, tie rod, control arm bushing.

You can have a friend perform the above, while you look at ball joint and outer tie rod.
