2009 Pontiac G6 Mechanical Problems

As I was driving in motion and making a turn, my vehicle would not shift gears into reverse, drive, or neutral. The vechicle then stopped in the intercection. The mechanic said that it was a mechanical problem because it affected the transmission. The clutch was burnt and the valve was sticking.

I was wondering if this problem (not being able to shift gears) had anything to do with the "Transmission shift position sequence, starter interlock, and transmiission braking effect? In the event that the transmission shift cable adjustment clip not being fully engaged.
