1997 Pontiac Firebird Engine Dieing

I started my trans am today and it immediately died. It starts with lots of energy but won't run and then does'nt want to turn start at all.I wonder what the cause is and how much for the repair? Thankyou.

I had the electric switch go out on my steering cloumn (mine is 95 trans am). But there are other things that can cause this. Does it strat and die immediately, or die after a few seconds. Could be a vacuum leak as well. Or intake manifold vacuum leak, loose or damaged wireing in ignition system
