2001 Pontiac Bonneville Gas Guage Not Accurate

My gas guage is all over the place, a friend told me to fix the gas guage it also required changing the fuel pump because the sensor was integrated into the fuel pump. Is this true? Can it be corrosion from sulfer that an addative wuld help?

I had the same problem with car and after replacing the unit everything works fine.A friend of mine that is a mechanic said he has seen that problem and the fuel pump going right after that when the gas gauge was going crazy.
