Noises problem
2001 Pontiac Bonneville Two Wheel Drive Automatic 123000 miles

There is a loud humming noise coming from either the front tires or the engine. It gets louder when I accelerate and quiet when I decelerate/come to a complete stop. Now my 'service engine soon' light came on. It has come on before, but I was told it was due to my gas cap not being screwed on tight enough. With a few extra turns of the gas cap, the light has turned off in the past, but not anymore. If you have any ideas or suggestions on what the problem could be, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you for your time.

Have the computer scanned to determine why the light is on. Most parts stores will do it for free.

As far as the noise, does it stop when you stop?

if it gets louder when u accelerate but stops completely when you have stopped its your wheel bearing. I have had both of my front wheel bearings go out on my o2 sle bonneville and they both made a humming noise getting louder when i hit 55 but stopped when the car stopped. thats what it was
