I have a 86' plymoth caravelle with about 92k miles on the car. I have had the car for about 5 months and notice while driving you get smoke coming from the hood and after a while you get the smell of gas so when I get it parked its still smoking and when you pop the hood you can see that the smoke is coming from the engin, and you can hear little crackling noises as well.I know whats going on is bad Im affraid that while driving with the wife and two kids the car will catch fire.

Hi: If there is smoke and the smell of fuel, you need to have it checked ASAP. Yes, it could be dangerous. However, are you sure it's smoke and not steam? It could be a coolant leak.
