I recently purchased a 1993 Plymouth Acclaim because my old car finally kicked the bucket. Last night, the Check Engine light started to coe on every time the car accellerated beyond 40mph. I thought this was a bit odd, so I used the ignition diagnostic mode and got 3 seperate error codes: 12, 32, and 55. From what I was able to find in my own research, these faults have to do with the EGR System (32), the Generator Field Control Circuit (55), and an unknown code (12).

From what I have been able to research, code 12 refers to the battery not being connected. I'm guessing that one of the general problems is that either the alternator or battery is on it's last legs. Either that or the Fuel Injection System needs to be cleaned (either by mech or cleaner fluid), as the car was damned near empty when I took possession of it.

(UPDATE) Cleared computer codes, rechecked, alternator code disappeared. Checked hoses on EGR valve, one was leaking. I replaced the hose and the light went away. Joy.

Hi:
I think the code 12 indicates that the battery has been disconnected with the last 50 cycles. Make sure the ground to the engine block is clean and tight and the battery ternimals are the same.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
