I tried to remove plastic engine cover of my vw polo. I realized one of the hose-like connections but not the other one and damaged it. It is a plastic tube connected to the part of engine cover which also covers the air intake butterfly. Is it a crucial part? Also, what this plastic cover all about?

It looks like to be a kind of vacuum tube involving exhaust gas. Is it related to EGR system?

This tube is called a breather tube and its used to allow air into and out of the crankcase, you can replace it with a regular hose and be okay
