2001 Other Peugeot Models acceleration

We have just returned from 2 weeks holiday, during which time there has been torrential rain. My son took his car out and the diagnostic light came on and he couldn't accelerate properly. I am presuming the water has caused the problem. Will it dry out on its own or will we need to take it to a mechanic?

Take the vehicle and have it plugged into a diagnostic computer to locate the fault. It will need to be plugged into a computer to turn off the light ! If there are no problems found and it was just the dampness.
