1989 Peugeot 205 Two Wheel Drive Manual 88K miles

Hello! My name is Tom and I have a 1989 Peugeot 205 1.4 GR. It has recently (Monday just gone) passed its MOT.
This morning I drove to the petrol station, 1/4 of a mile away, and that was a strange sqeak which changed pitch when I put my clutch right the way in. I reached the petrol station and stopped behind a car filling up at pump, as it left, I went to put my foot on clutch to select first gear, and the clutch pedal was right at the bottom on the stop plate. I smelt a quick wiff of clutch and that was it. No warning or anything.
Prior to this, the gear changed have been fine, clutch hasnt felt too loose or too tight, however I dont know when or if the clutch/clutch cable has ever been replaced.
Do you know from my description wether it will be clutch or cable?

Thanks in advance, and keep up the fantastic work,
Tom.

Hello .. thanks for the donation .. much appreciated

It could actually be either the clutch or cable .. from the squealing sound it could be the clutch itself also the pedal hitting the floor could be the bearing has gone through the springs .. but the pedal being on the floor could also mean the cable has broken .. look under the bonnet to see if the cable has broken at the gearbox end .. also check on the pedal to see if has broken there if you cannot see a break ... pull the end of the cable to see if it is broken inside the plastic sleave which sometimes happens .. if you cannot locate a break in the cable the clutch has probably gone i'm afraid ...

hope this helps
