In an attempt to remove the center console to replace a broken cup holder, I am looking for the best idea to remove the rubber parking brake handle from the parking brake lever. Fourteen year old car, tight fit. Maybe try to force some liquid soap in between the metal and the rubber to break the bond? I am hoping to keep from damaging it, but simply pulling on it is not going to work. Any ideas? Thanks!

Book says "the rubber handle can only be removed from the parking brake lever with great force (suction). If necessary cut open with a suitable tool."

I think I might try using a couple thin pieces of metal shim stock and a sharp tool to lift the two wide sides and slip the shims in, but I am not sure it would help.

Or go get a long stainless needle oil bottle and see if you can force that up under there with some soapy water in it.

Another option, Use a hair drier/heat gun to soften it just enough that it can be twisted and pulled off.

Or call the dealer and see what a replacement costs.

You are welcome. Let us know which method works for you. I have used them all on items like that. Just love those designs where they make it almost impossible to actually do repairs.
