I towed my truck to a transmission shop (I know I know) because I was getting a P0740 code and because it was stalling out.
They never got that code but instead got a P0120 code (TPS sensor?) And a P0884 code.
Without my authorization they took the transmission out! But that's another issue.
The symptoms of what my truck was doing lead to the sensor. They are now telling me I need to overhaul my transmission for $4,000.00!
My question to you is, does the TPS have anything to do with the transmission?

Hi,

The throttle position sensor, P0120, is tied into the transmission. A signal from the TPS is used by the transmission control module (TCM) to determine engine load.

If you look at the first four pics below, they provide a description of the code and the diagnostics. Note, in all sections of the procedure there is no indication of transmission failure. Instead, there could be the need for a software update, a wiring issue, or a module issue.

The last three pics are specific to the P0884. This is the specific transmission code. It indicates the TCM voltage input is intermittent. This is most likely a wiring issue and not the module. Again, this doesn't indicate the need to overhaul the transmission. If the transmission is overhauled and the electrical issue isn't addressed, it will continue doing the same thing.

Prior to all of this happening, were there any transmission issues you remember?

Let me know.

Joe

Hi,

No, I'm sorry, but I never received it. That last one I got was from 9/14. Could you possibly resend it?

Let me know.

Joe
