Code p0706

It only happens when warm, and only sometimes, the gear selection on the dash would all light up and flash and it will act up, sometimes you can drive for an hour with no issue. It seems hard to find the part. is there a way to find out whether this car has a CVT or regular transmission? VIN# WAUAF78E77A215369

I cannot really tell by driving it as they are so smooth, but once they flash the reverse acts as neutral and it will jerk. Only code is P0706 trying to find out if it's a CVT or regular transmission before I look for the right transmission range sensor.

I've attached 2 picture below showing diagnostics for your transmission P0706 code. The first picture is for the standard 01J transmission and the second picture is for the 01J CVT transmission.
