Hi,

My Honda airwave the D light on the dashboard blinks when the car is driven, and the handbrake lights stay on permanently as well but no abs light. The D light keeps blinking irrespective of the gear the car is in until the ignition is switched off and on again. However, it resumes blinking as soon as I accelerate past 35 - 40 km/hr.

In the morning when I start the car, the RPM shoots up normally to 1,500-1,800 RPMs and starts coming down gradually. When I engage the reverse gear to back out, RPMs drop to about 500 when I completely break. When I then try to switch from R to D, RPM shoots up to 1500 before settling back down to about 800. When this happens, there is a small delay (about a second) before the vehicle starts moving forward. At this point the D light doesn't blink until I accelerate to about 30-40km/hr.

My mileage consumption in the city sucks a bit (9km/L). My mechanic says it's my ABS module, another says it's an electrical fault. Yet another said it doesn't matter since my check engine light is not on. Anyone had this type of issue and how was it resolved? Waiting for your informed answers. Thanks.

Hello,

The blinking D light is due to fault code(s) stored in the transmission control module.
It is just like the check engine light, but it is specific to the transmission.
It can be due to any number of components or sensors.

A good first step would be to scan the vehicle and retrieve the fault code(s). In order to do that you will have to use a scanner that can read transmission fault codes.
Many OBD scanners are capable of scanning both the check engine light codes and the transmission codes.

Knowing the code(s) can help with the diagnostics by narrowing down the possible issues.

The P0700 is telling you there is a fault within the transmission control system.

Please let me know what codes you find or if you have any questions.

Thank you.

Also, I got 51-1 ABS pump motor failure.

Is the scanner that you used capable of reading transmission codes? The transmission code numbers range from P0705 - P0761.

Interestingly I don't see the P1987 on my code chart. Our charts are primarily for US vehicles, what country are you located?

That code is likely due to a faulty vehicle speed sensor or an issue with the circuit for the speed sensor.
A malfunctioning speed sensor can impact the way transmission shifts. As the data will be corrupted.

I appreciate the support, the sensor I have found there is kinder different from the one you indicated in the picture, the car is Honda airwave not fit, I only selected fit because I didn't see airwave on the list and since they have many in common.
The sensor I found is similar to the speed sensor Infront of the gearbox could it be that the previous owner changed it or that's the one for airwave.

The picture you uploaded does look like a speed sensor. And yes, the vehicle speed sensor is typically located on the transmission output shaft.
Since the Airwave was not offered in the US, we don't have access to the schematics for the model. So, I am unable to confirm the exact location.
But yes a faulty speed sensor will impact the shifting points or many not shift at all.
