P0401

Car was running fine then all of a sudden check engine light comes on and car will turn over but will not start bought a new battery put it on. Still same thing turns over but will not start. Pulled the codes and all it shows is one code P0401 when you turn the motor over it kind of acts like it wants to start but it does not start and you can smell a heavy gasoline smell. Please help what can it be?

That code is for a problem with the EGR system it is probably blocked, this will not stop the car from running under normal conditions, the spark plugs will be fouled with fuel and the more you crank the harder it will be to start due to flooding, pull the spark plugs and replace or clean, check that you do have good spark ansd remove the EGR valve and clean carbon from the pipe and valve, if you have a hand held vacuum pump you can test the valve operation as well, start her and if you need further assistance re post.
