Overheating issues

As I am driving down the road my truck will stop blowing warm air and at that point I will know the temperature gauge is about to start warming up. Everytime within 1-2 minutes when I feel the defrost or heater not blowing warm air anymore the temperature gauge goes warm and reaches the red area. I immediately have to pull over but once I cut the engine and restart once or twice the engine or what ever was not working begins to regulate okay. This same issue happened last winter and has not happened all spring, summer and fall but now with the weather turning cold again the issue has returned.

Hello,

Sounds like air trapped inside the cooling system, as a first step check and correct the coolant level and perform coolant bleeding.

Thank You for your feedback. What I did so far was I waited for the engine to cool overnight and checked fluid levels of antifreeze in morning. When I opened the radiator reservoir it was bone dry and it made a short hissing sound probably from pressure build up. I went to Walmart and bought some premixed 50/50 antifreeze and put in truck to see what happened. Yesterday was my first test and the level in reservoir dropped overnight a little but I would loo ssf expect that if the fluid is pulling over to main radiator too. Truck temperature seemed to regulate okay for the little bit I drove last night locally but I will check fluids again today. Can fluids alone make vehicles do what I was experiencing?

Hello,

yes low coolant level can cause that kind of issues, then you have a coolant leak problem must be solved first, coolant reservoir level should not be dropped, pressurize the coolant check for leak.
