Transmission not shifting properly and overdrive light is flashing

A flashing overdrive light means we have a sensor, shifter, or internal electrical transmission issue.

We need to start with checking for codes which will tell us what general area the issue is in.

This could just be a simple sensor issue or more complicated so we need to start at the basics. Let's check the fluid and make sure it is the proper level and color.

It is unlikely that the fluid will fix this issue but the last thing we want is to fix this issue and just have another because of the fluid. Plus the fluid is also a sign of greater issues so we need to start with this and codes.

Okay. When the light is flashing, let's check for codes. More than likely this is a shift motor or other part of the system causing this to flash, but we need to find out what codes are there and see what direction it points us in.

As you can see from other vehicles these types of issues are common. Granted this other one does not have the overdrive light flashing but they are still similar issues.
