I over filled my tank over the last three fill ups. I have been reading that this can cause problems with the charcoal canister. Can you say if only three such instances can cause problems? I have also read that newer model vehicles have mechanisms in place to prevent damage to the canister in the event of overfilling.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

When the fuel pump clicks off, stop because raw fuel can be forced into the evaporative emissions system (EVAP). The charcoal canister is part of the EVAP system and yes, can be damaged. If you are not experiencing any issues, chances are you didn't hurt anything. However, I would recommend not doing it.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe
